"Kootz" is the Tlingit Indian (pronounced 'Clink-it') word for 'Bear'. I was in Alaska this past summer and visited a Tlingit village. I inquired of a local native what the word 'Kootz' meant, and was told that it meant 'Bear'. (from Aaron Serr (mooseman70@aol.com))
