History

Issued circa 1945, the “Black Thunderbird” is the first known issue from Wyona Lodge. The members who designed this patch were all Eagle Scouts, so they came up with an Eagle-like design. For this reason, it would be more accurate to call it the “Black Eagle”, however, the thunderbird name has stuck with it through time. A picture of the R1 was featured in the first OA handbook in 1948 and in the 1950 edition. The patch was issued until 1949.
