Lodge History

Baluga Lodge was chartered by the Direct Service Council. BSA Councils ceased to exist in the Philippines at the beginning of World War II. At the conclusion of the war, BSA members in the Philippines were served by Direct Service. The six units at Clark Air Base were served by the Base Scouting Committee. There were other units in other locations in the Philippines. At some point in the early 1960's, exact year is unknown, the Baluga Lodge was notified that they would not be issued a charter because the National Council indicated that Direct Service did not have the authority to charter an OA Lodge. The charter was withheld and Baluga Lodge member became part of Hinode Goya Lodge 498 in 1965. Gamenowinink Lodge 555 was chartered by Direct Service in 1962. Gamenowinink was allowed to continue, perhaps the OA only wanted Direct Service to charter one Lodge as is the general custom today.
