At the 1992 BSA annual meeting, it was announced that the then Six Region structure would be consolidated into Four Regions. Two years later, the Northeast Region's areas and sections were redrawn to conform to the new regional organization. The existing twelve sections were reshuffled from seven to five areas. Final conclaves for the old sections where held in 1994.

Section NE-2B was created from the Six Region Section NE-2B.

Following the 1997 Conclaves, as part of the NE realignment, Section NE-2B lost three lodges (Sanhican 2, Na Tsi Hi 71, and Japeechen 341) to NE-2A, and gained three lodges (Shinnecock 360, Buckskin 412, and Yokahu 506) from NE-2A, and one lodge (Black Eagle 482) from NE-4C.

In 1998 Iaoapogh 286 merged with Oratam 484 to form Oratam 286.

Before the 1998 NE-2B conclave, Buckskin 412 was moved from NE-2B to NE-3A.

After the 1998 NE-2B conclave, Shinnecock 360 was moved from NE-2B to NE-3A.

On September 1st, 1999, the Northeast Region consolidated from five areas to four (ten sections, down from eleven). The new section boundaries were effective at the conclusion of each section's 2000 conclave.

On September 25, 1999 - Mantowagan 14, Meechgalanne 178, Oratam 286, and Aquaninoncke 359 merged to form Lenapehoking Lodge #9

January 2001 - Allemakewink 54 merged with Miquin 68 to form Woapalanne Lodge #43

Section NE-2B gained Shinnecock 360 and Buckskin 412 from NE-3A, while Lowwapaneu 191 is exchanged with Witauchsoman 44 from NE-4A. Yokahú 506 is reassigned to NE-2A.

In March 2008, a new realignment for the Northeast Region was announced. In late May, the official section assignments were made available as posted by John Pannell at OAImages Blog. The region increased from four to seven areas, and from ten to twelve sections. New sections went into effect following the 2008 conclaves.

Section NE-2B is split between four sections: Black Eagle 482 to NE-2A; Lowwapaneu 191 to NE-5B; Sakuwit 2, Lenapehoking 9, and Woapalanne 43 to NE-7A; and Shinnecock 360 and Buckskin 412 to to NE-7B.

In May of 2011, a New Section Organization for the Northeast Region was announced. Area 7 was eliminated, and because Areas 2 and 3 were increased to two sections each (A&B), the region remained at twelve sections. New sections will go into effect following the 2011 conclaves.

NE-2B, successor to the old 7B, sees the reunification of the NYC lodges with Greenwich, CT, and Westchester-Putnam Council, while NE-7B sheds Half Moon and Nacha Nimat to NE-2A.

April 1, 2013 - The five lodges of the Greater New York Council, Ranachqua 4, Shu-Shu-Gah 24, Suanhacky 49, Man-A-Hattin 82, and Aquehongian 112 merged to form Kintecoying Lodge 4.

In 2021, Ktemaque Lodge #15 and Nacha Nimat #86 merged to form Mahicantuck Lodge #15.

In October 2021, National announced that, as part of Project Magellan, the OA would be moving to two regions. Section NE-2B was renamed E18.
